Violence against women is any act or intention that results in harm or physical, sexual or psychological suffering and includes threats, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of freedom both in private and in public life. This violence is perpetrated against women because of their gender and personal condition. |

The large scale of violence against women has prompted that the World Health Organization, the European Commission and national governments, regional and local authorities have considered a public health priority and a threat to progress in the field of equality and non-discrimination between women and men.
Violence against women occurs in all social, economic and educational levels and in both urban and rural areas. However, women with low educational and economic resources refer to be victims of violence in the family life more frequently than women from less disadvantaged social sectors.
Asociación Salud y Familia is firmly committed in operational research, prevention and early detection of intimate partner violence against vulnerable women and in the immediate attention to victims.
The portfolio of services and activities includes:
- Detection of intimate partner violence in the lives of all women attending the various programs and services of Asociación Salud y Familia.
- Offer of immediate care and legal and psychological support to women victims of violence.
- Networking with public health care resources for women victims of violence.
- Studies on the social and cultural bases of partner violence against immigrant women.
